See Italy by Sea!

What many people tend to forget is that some of the greatest sights in Italy are fairly close to the coast, so it makes perfect sense to see Italy from the sea rather than travelling about on land. You can find some fabulous Mediterranean cruise deals on offer, especially if you are flexible with your dates.

Some of the classic sights of Italy can be seen from the comfort of a cruise ship, with easily accessible excursions laid on to land each day. The port of Naples is one example, and passengers can disembark for a full day tour of the city itself as well as the ancient towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum, all with the famous Mount Etna as a backdrop.

Rome, the capital of Italy, is also a popular cruise ship destination, as it can easily be reached by coach from the port. Spend a day discovering the many ancient Roman sites such as the forum or the Coliseum or splash out on the designer boutiques for some serious shopping.

The Italian island of Sicily is also another popular port of call when on a cruise, with visits to Palermo, a charming and interesting town. Another town not to be missed is Pisa, with its famous Leaning Tower, which can easily be reached from the port of Livorno.

Then, on the other side of Italy, who can miss a trip to Venice, the romantic city of waterways and gondolas, with historic St Mark's Square and the Bridge of Sighs?
